LG Electronics has embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration with NVIDIA, leveraging LG’s extensive manufacturing expertise and NVIDIA’s cutting-edge robotics technology at LG’s new Data Factory in Seoul. Scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the year, the Data Factory showcases LG’s field-proven LG CLOiD™ home robots deployed at scale to collect and learn from data.
The facility includes specialized training spaces where robots engage in various tasks, along with areas dedicated to refining resulting data sets. For example, a replicated home environment allows LG CLOiD robots to practice cleaning tasks, while a simulated manufacturing space enables them to handle different parts, mimicking real-world scenarios from LG’s manufacturing sites in Tennessee.
The collaboration extends to LG CNS’s logistics automation solutions and LG Innotek’s robotic hand training area, all feeding data into NVIDIA’s robotics stack for enhanced data synthesis and robot learning. This partnership aims to establish a top-tier “data flywheel” by continuously improving robot performance through high-quality data derived from LG’s decades-old manufacturing and logistics operations.
At the core of LG’s physical AI strategy is the Data Factory, serving as a hub where robots gather and amplify learning data from various operational settings globally. NVIDIA’s advanced physical AI technologies, like the Omniverse libraries and the Isaac robotics development platform, are instrumental in this process, ensuring seamless data integration from collection to deployment.
The facility, spanning four floors with a significant robot capacity, is set to accumulate a substantial amount of training data by year-end, bolstering LG’s Robot Foundation Model (RFM) to enhance humanoid robot performance. LG’s recent establishment of a Robotics Business Center, reporting directly to the CEO, underscores its commitment to fortifying its robotics capabilities across industrial, commercial, and upcoming home robotics sectors.
Through synergies across its business units and strategic partnerships with global players like NVIDIA, LG aims to solidify its position as a comprehensive robotics solutions provider.
