Hong Kong is set to establish a committee focused on AI+ and industry development strategies to steer industrial transformation through artificial intelligence. John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), revealed this initiative at the inaugural Hong Kong Embodied AI Industry Summit. The committee will initially concentrate on life and health technology as well as embodied intelligence. Lee emphasized the pivotal role of embodied AI in driving industrial advancement and cultivating new high-quality productivity sources. He encouraged enterprises to establish their presence in Hong Kong to capitalize on the city’s strengths and expedite technological progression.
Lee announced the forthcoming launch of the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Institute in the latter part of the year. The institute aims to enhance AI research and development, streamline the commercialization of research findings, and broaden real-world application possibilities. It will debut an AI technology matching platform to cater to industry requirements, accelerating commercialization efforts and empowering industrial growth. Frederick Ma, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, underscored Hong Kong’s competitive advantages in internal consolidation, external connectivity, as well as its openness and inclusivity. These attributes position Hong Kong as an ideal platform for mainland innovation and technology firms seeking to expand into global markets.
The summit, jointly organized by the Hong Kong China Friendship Association and robotics company AGIBOT, seeks to establish a collaborative platform for Hong Kong’s embodied AI sector. The objective is to elevate the city to a global hub for embodied AI. Moreover, the event aims to facilitate exchanges and partnerships within the sector.
