Humanoid Robot Figure 03 Efficiently Handling Daily Chores

Figure AI is showcasing its third-generation humanoid robot, Figure 03, designed to tackle daily chores efficiently, starting from unloading a dishwasher and arranging dishes. While not a heroic task, for a robot, it presents challenges like walking, balancing, handling delicate objects without breaking them, and adapting to a changing environment. The humanoid robot relies on its new proprietary AI, Helix 02, along with a production-friendly design. In a demonstration video, Figure 03 autonomously navigates a kitchen, unloads dishes from a dishwasher, places them in cabinets, and restarts the machine seamlessly, without human intervention or visible scripts.

Figure AI emphasizes that every action in the video is solely performed by Figure 03 without remote human control. The robot responds to simple voice commands, showcasing capabilities to handle stairs, narrow hallways, and moved furniture independently. Standing at 1.68 meters tall, weighing 60 kg, capable of carrying up to 20 kg, and moving at just over a meter per second, Figure 03 boasts five hours of battery life. It features wireless charging through floor plates where it can position itself unassisted. What sets Figure 03 apart is its AI, Helix 02, integrating visual perception, touch, balance, locomotion, and manipulation into a seamless system, ensuring continuous coordination.

Noteworthy advancements include enhanced cameras with doubled image frequency, reduced latency, and widened field of vision. Hand-palm cameras aid visibility when the arms obstruct the main view, such as when picking objects from cabinets. The internally developed tactile sensors are precise enough to detect pressure equal to a paper clip’s weight. Representing the first robot designed for mass production, Figure AI plans to start with 12,000 units annually, aiming for 100,000 units later.

While the robot’s capabilities are showcased impressively, aspects like pricing, availability dates, and independent testing remain unspecified. Transitioning from controlled environments to real-world scenarios with cluttered kitchens, scattered toys, and unpredictable pets is a challenge yet to be addressed.
