In a recent episode of the Shawn Ryan Show, host and former U.S. Navy SEAL and CIA contractor Shawn Ryan encountered Figure AI’s humanoid robot, Figure 03, in a real-world demonstration. Developed by robotics startup Figure AI, this fully functioning AI-powered robot showcases the potential to perform a range of tasks including household chores and industrial work. Walking beside Ryan, guided solely by AI, the robot’s human-like proportions and neural network-controlled movements set it apart from earlier robotic designs.
During the demonstration, Ryan interacted with the robot, testing its agility and capabilities. Adcock, Figure AI’s founder and CEO, explained the robot’s innovative features, including its AI-driven locomotion, 40 joints for flexibility, and advanced sensors for balance. The robot’s hands, equipped with cameras and tactile sensors, enable it to handle objects with precision and perform delicate tasks like folding clothes.
Beyond the demonstration, Figure AI aims to develop general-purpose humanoid robots to address labor shortages in industries like manufacturing and logistics. With partnerships with companies like BMW for manufacturing trials, the company envisions a future where humanoid robots seamlessly integrate into industrial workflows.
The robot’s computing hardware, including GPUs and battery systems, is housed in its torso, allowing it to operate for several hours before recharging wirelessly through pads in its feet. Adcock likened the evolution of humanoid robotics to the advancements seen in smartphones, with each generation bringing significant improvements in capabilities.
Figure AI has established a manufacturing facility capable of producing humanoid robots at scale, aiming to increase production outputs significantly in the long term. The company envisions a future where humanoid robots become common like smartphones, potentially reaching production levels in the millions annually.
