SwitchBot Unveils AI Pet Robots with Emotion Recognition and Personalized Features

SwitchBot is set to launch its AI Pet companion robots, known as the KATA Friends range, after teasing the concept at IFA last year. These robots, named Noa and Niko, are soft-bodied companions equipped with artificial intelligence features. They are designed to roam around your home, respond to touch, recognize emotions, memorize routines, and even form attachment patterns based on how they are raised.

In a unique twist, SwitchBot’s robots are capable of greeting you at the door, interacting differently with individual family members, detecting mood changes through voice recognition, and documenting shared experiences through photos taken from their perspective. Despite their cuddly exterior, these robots boast a sophisticated stack of AI technology. They incorporate on-device LLM processing, local visual recognition, cloud-based AI functionalities, 12 touch-sensitive areas, autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, and self-charging capabilities.

The company’s transformation from a smart home accessories brand to an “AI-enabled embodied home robotics” company has been evident in its recent product offerings. Alongside the KATA Friends release, SwitchBot introduced the AI Hub at IFA 2025. The AI Hub features OpenClaw integration aimed at enhancing conversational and context-aware smart home automation. Furthermore, SwitchBot’s venture into AI sports technology is exemplified by Acemate, an AI tennis robot serving as a virtual tennis coach.

A notable trend in the tech industry is the emergence of emotionally intelligent AI hardware. With products like Rabbit’s R1 and Humane’s AI Pin, there is a growing interest in making AI devices more personalized and engaging. SwitchBot’s approach infuses personality into its robots, turning them into interactive companions that can accompany you around your home. Despite the playful demeanor, the underlying trend underscores a shift towards imbuing robots with contextual awareness and personality traits.

Priced at $700, Noa and Niko are available for purchase directly from SwitchBot. As the market for emotionally aware AI devices continues to expand, SwitchBot’s robots set a precedent for future robotic companions that prioritize friendliness and personalized interaction. The introduction of these AI pets reflects a broader industry movement towards creating robots that are not only functional but also personable and responsive to human emotions.
