Hyundai is set to manufacture over 300,000 US-made actuators annually, which are vital components driving the movement of robot joints. Partnering with Boston Dynamics, Hyundai plans to introduce more than 25,000 Atlas humanoid robots in the United States as part of its robotics manufacturing strategy. By 2028, Hyundai aims to scale up the production capacity to 30,000 Atlas robots yearly, focusing on local manufacturing of key robot parts to enhance humanoid robotics in automotive production.

Boston Dynamics recently showcased the Atlas humanoid robot’s capability to handle heavy objects through techniques like reinforcement learning, torso rotation, and adaptive balance control. Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) intends to integrate 25,000 Atlas humanoid robots into its manufacturing facilities, with a target of reaching 30,000 robots in annual production by 2028. Additionally, HMG plans to produce more than 300,000 actuator units per year in the US to support this initiative.

Employing reinforcement learning and simulations, Boston Dynamics has enabled Atlas to lift and transport bulky items effectively by adjusting to internal weight shifts dynamically. By using proprioception for real-time monitoring of balance and body motion, Atlas can handle unstable loads with precision. Through continuous training in simulation environments, Atlas has honed its skills to adapt to various conditions, enhancing its real-world performance.
