The 4 Layers of Brainpower Driving a Leading European Humanoid Robot

Humanoid AI, a UK-based company, is making a mark in the European humanoid robot market. The firm’s HMND 01 robot boasts a wheeled design that proves superior for industrial use due to enhanced energy efficiency, stability, and easier CE certification compared to bipedal models. Humanoid AI adopts a four-layer AI architecture, incorporating vision-language models to ensure precise task execution. The company’s focus is on deploying versatile robot fleets capable of various tasks, aiming to outperform human speed through reinforcement learning.

Despite having less capital compared to US competitors, Humanoid AI has strategically partnered with industry giants like Bosch and Schaeffler and adopted a commercial-first strategy, positioning themselves for rapid growth and European manufacturing expansion. The company is anticipated to secure additional funding in the near future. The four-layer brain of HMND 01 resembles European elevators, reflecting the company’s headquarters in a high-rise tower in downtown London.

While American and Chinese companies dominate headlines in the humanoid robot sector, European contenders like Humanoid AI, Neura Robotics in Germany, and Oversonic Robotics in Italy are also making significant advancements. Humanoid AI’s Chief Product Officer Sotirios Stasinopoulos, with extensive experience in China’s robotics industry, leads the company’s strategic direction. Founded in 2024 by Artem Sokolov, Humanoid AI has already established partnerships with key players like Schaeffler, Bosch, and Siemens, without the massive venture capital funding of its counterparts.

Humanoid AI’s preference for a wheeled platform, represented by the HMND 01, is due to its efficiency, stability, and easier regulatory compliance for industrial settings. The company utilizes a four-layer software architecture to streamline robotic intelligence, enabling flexible task allocation and efficient task execution. Humanoid AI aims to achieve speeds exceeding human capabilities through reinforcement learning, ensuring continuous improvement and versatility in robot deployment.

Humanoid AI’s success can be attributed to its commercial focus, collaborative partnerships with industry leaders, and a team of experienced professionals from renowned robotics companies. The company’s manufacturing strategy involves key partnerships with suppliers like Schaeffler and Bosch for critical components, ensuring quality, reliability, and scalability in production. With plans for European manufacturing and a diversified supply chain strategy, Humanoid AI is poised for growth and competitiveness in the evolving humanoid robot market.
