LG Innotek Advances Camera and Sensor Business for Humanoid Robots

LG Innotek, based in Gangseo District, Seoul, is focusing on enhancing its camera, sensor, and other critical component divisions for humanoid robots as the industrial application of these technologies approaches. With the emergence of the market as a promising revenue stream, the company is intensifying its efforts in this sector.

Industry sources revealed that LG Innotek is currently in negotiations with a U.S. humanoid robot company to supply camera modules. JAHWA Electronics, a Korean electric component firm specializing in actuators for camera modules, is also part of the discussions. Although LG Innotek has not officially confirmed the specifics of the partnership, reports indicate that the humanoid robot company aims to establish a mass production system this year targeting an annual output of 1 million units. Should the deal proceed, LG Innotek will become a key camera module supplier for the company.

LG Innotek has been diversifying its product portfolio, traditionally concentrated on components for mobile and IT devices. The company recognizes sensing components for humanoid robots, such as cameras, radars, and other technologies, as a promising avenue for growth. At CES 2026, LG Innotek CEO, Moon Hyuk-soo, highlighted the commencement of mass production for sensing components for humanoid robots, which has already generated substantial revenue.

In a strategic move, LG Innotek entered into a collaboration with humanoid robotics firm Boston Dynamics in May to develop an advanced vision sensing system for the Atlas humanoid robots. This innovative system integrates various sensing elements including color cameras and 3D sensing modules, enabling robots to accurately perceive their surroundings in challenging conditions. Furthermore, LG Innotek secured a deal in June to supply camera modules to the U.S.-based humanoid robot startup Figure AI as part of its commitment to expanding its footprint in the humanoid robot component market.

Moon Hyuk-soo also emphasized the company’s focus on enhancing their actuator business to cater to the specific needs of humanoid robots, particularly in developing precise actuators for humanoid robot hands. Acknowledging the current reliance on overseas supply chains for crucial actuator components, LG Innotek is ramping up investments and establishing a specialized team to meet the increasing demands in the humanoid robot sector.

In conclusion, LG Innotek’s strategic collaborations, product diversification, and expansion initiatives underline its commitment to driving innovation in the field of humanoid robotics and solidifying its position as a key player in this evolving industry landscape.
