The robot, named Figure 3, engaged with attendees in various languages and identified itself as a humanoid built in the United States. The first lady utilized the robot to advocate for incorporating artificial intelligence into children’s education, envisioning a future where robots could serve as interactive educators. Figure AI, the company behind the robot, indicates that its third-generation humanoids have broader applications beyond education, including commercial and household tasks.

Established in 2022 by tech entrepreneur Brett Adcock, Figure AI’s innovative robots are powered by the Helix AI system, enabling learning through observation and verbal commands. The company recently secured over $1 billion in funding, with prominent investors like Nvidia, Intel Capital, and Qualcomm Ventures supporting its advancements.

The endorsement from the White House is expected to enhance Figure AI’s reputation in the robotics industry, propelling its mission to deploy robots for various functions in homes and logistics. The company has already initiated collaborations with commercial partners like BMW for tasks in manufacturing facilities.

Despite its achievements, Figure AI is facing legal challenges regarding safety concerns raised by a former employee regarding the robot’s capabilities to cause harm. This event is not the first instance where a company associated with Brett Adcock received attention from the government, as his aerospace venture, Archer Aviation, gained momentum following support from the Trump administration. Archer Aviation’s initiatives in electric air taxis align with governmental directives, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovative aviation solutions.
