ABB Robotics and NVIDIA Collaboration: Introducing Physical AI Integration

ABB Robotics has announced a groundbreaking partnership with NVIDIA to facilitate the integration of physical AI into the industrial sector. This collaboration entails combining ABB Robotics’ RobotStudio® simulation platform with NVIDIA Omniverse technologies to enable industrial simulations with up to 99% accuracy. The technology has the potential to reduce production costs by up to 40% and accelerate the introduction of new products by up to 50%.

By merging these technologies, manufacturers can simulate robots in digital twins and leverage synthetic data to train artificial intelligence models before deploying them in real environments. This integration aims to bridge the gap between simulation and practical application, paving the way for physical AI on a global scale.

The resulting solution, dubbed RobotStudio HyperReality, will initially be accessible to selected clients before its global launch planned for the second half of 2026. ABB anticipates that this technology can cut production line setup time by up to 80%, trim costs by up to 40% through the elimination of physical prototypes, and hasten the launch of complex products like consumer electronics by up to 50%.

The collaboration’s early applications include a pilot project with Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer. Foxconn is leveraging the solution to virtually train robots responsible for assembling electronic components, using synthetic data to refine production processes before implementation. This approach is expected to enhance precision and speed in consumer electronics manufacturing.

Additionally, the California-based robotic workforce company WORKR is utilizing the platform to introduce AI-based automation to small and medium-sized manufacturers in the United States. At the NVIDIA GTC 2026 event in California, WORKR will showcase robotic systems trained with synthetic data capable of executing new tasks within minutes, illustrating that advanced automation is feasible for businesses of all sizes.

The possibility of integrating NVIDIA Jetson edge computing platform into ABB’s Omnicore controller is being explored to enable real-time AI inference directly on robots. ABB emphasizes its unique position as the only robot manufacturer with a virtual controller utilizing identical firmware to its hardware, ensuring high fidelity between simulation and real-world performance. The integration of Absolute Accuracy technology aims to deliver precise results in industrial applications.

Based on the success of the partnership, ABB Robotics conducted a virtual press conference on March 9 to unveil the details of the collaboration and RobotStudio HyperReality. ABB Robotics, at the forefront of automation trends, aspires to drive sustainable and efficient resource utilization through engineering and digitalization expertise, assisting industries in achieving high performance, efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.

With a rich history spanning over 140 years and a global workforce of approximately 110,000 employees, ABB’s commitment to advancing technology for enhanced industrial operations is evident. Listed on SIX Swiss Exchange (ABBN) and Nasdaq Stockholm (ABB), ABB continues its legacy of innovation to create a more sustainable future.
