China’s humanoid robot showcase at WAIC 2025

At this year’s World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, China’s humanoid robotics sector made significant strides, showcasing over 150 robots from more than 80 specialized enterprises. The event unveiled more than 60 intelligent robot models, each with enhanced functions and capabilities. Dobot Robotics caught attention with its latest robotic arm integrated with Tencent Robotics X’s VLA large-language model, enabling natural dialogue and autonomous task execution based on user intent and environmental cues.

This innovative approach combines vision, language, and action, empowering robots to adapt to various tasks swiftly. The traditional notion that robots require extensive training for repetitive tasks is being challenged, paving the way for more adaptable and versatile embodied intelligence. Unitree Robotics also debuted its cognitive and motor intelligence fusion through a boxing robot that excelled in tasks like drumming and calligraphy, showcasing mechanical flexibility and precision.

Deep Robotics introduced industrial-focused products catering to practical deployment needs, including quadruped robotic dogs for diverse scenarios. Keenon Robotics unveiled XMAN, a bipedal humanoid service robot designed for industries requiring agile mobility and advanced interaction. Moreover, Cyborg Robotics introduced China’s first heavy-duty humanoid robot, the Cyborg-R01, tailored for industrial environments to enhance automation processes.

The evolving landscape of China’s humanoid robotics sector is transitioning from theoretical concepts to practical applications driven by technological advancements and market demands. With a focus on embodied intelligence and sophisticated language models, robotics capabilities are progressing towards more practical uses in sectors like retail, healthcare, and logistics. This shift indicates a move from “seeing” to “doing” in robotics applications, with a greater emphasis on precise tasks and expanding market horizons.

While acknowledging China’s rapid progress in robotics technology, experts highlight the importance of bridging gaps with international standards and continuous innovation in the next decade. Chinese robotics firms are gaining global recognition for their quality products and services, with expanding market presence in emerging regions like Southeast Asia. The ASEAN market is witnessing a surge in Chinese robotic solutions adoption due to their cost-effectiveness, quality improvements, and robust support systems, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises.

In the domestic market, the interest in humanoid robots remains high, with a projected increase in the number of robot producers this year. Capital investments from various sectors, including automotive, internet, and finance, are fueling the growth of the robotics industry in China. Reports indicate that China is asserting dominance in AI robots and humanoid robotics, indicating a significant role in shaping the global robotics landscape.
