A groundbreaking school has recently opened in China with a unique purpose – training humanoid robots to excel in various tasks, as reported by Azernews. Situated in the Shijingshan District, the Beijing Humanoid Robot Training Center (second phase) offers a realistic setting for robots to undergo hands-on training, encompassing tasks both in industrial settings and in homes or public areas. The two-story complex is designed to mimic actual production lines and living conditions, enabling humanoid robots to simulate everyday activities like packaging, cooking, and organizing living spaces.
Within the training center, humanoid robots engage in practical training scenarios in specialized areas known as “cells.” These spaces feature a modular design that allows for quick adjustments to cater to different training needs. Notably, the center is home to Kuafu, a 165 cm tall humanoid robot developed by Leju Robotics in Shenzhen. Referred to as the world’s first humanoid 5G-A torchbearer, Kuafu plays a significant role as part of the training program. Each robot is accompanied by two human instructors to guide them through diverse environments and activities, emphasizing the importance of intensive practice to cultivate functional intelligence.
The initiative aims to address a common challenge in robotics, the scarcity of real-world data required for developing advanced AI models. By generating millions of high-quality data points annually, the center contributes to enhancing the capabilities of humanoid robots to perform tasks across various settings. The training at the center focuses on industrial production, smart home applications, elderly care services, and 5G integration scenarios, with the goal of advancing the development of robots capable of handling complex real-world tasks.
Experts foresee that the training center could expedite the progress of humanoid robots in fields such as manufacturing and healthcare by equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate diverse environments efficiently.
