Delhi Government Deploys Robots in Firefighting Team

The Arvind Kejriwal Government in New Delhi has introduced a novel approach by employing robots to combat fires in the city. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government recently welcomed two robots into Delhi’s firefighting team that are designed to extinguish fires in challenging locations such as narrow streets, warehouses, basements, stairs, forests, and areas like oil and chemical tankers and factories. This innovative step follows a tragic incident where 27 lives were lost in a massive fire at a factory in Mundka.

These remote-controlled firefighting robots offer enhanced accessibility to inaccessible areas, allowing them to navigate narrow lanes, reach spaces that are difficult for humans to access, and perform tasks too hazardous for individuals. Delhi Home Minister, Satyendar Jain, highlighted the significance of these robots and mentioned that they are capable of emitting water at a high pressure of 2,400 litres per minute. The wireless remote control attached to the robots enables precise control over spraying water, making them effective in areas where firefighters cannot easily reach.

The personnel at the Delhi Fire Service have undergone specialized training to operate these firefighting robots, and a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed to manage fire emergencies effectively. The robots, procured from an Austrian company, have already proven successful in controlling fires, as seen in a previous incident at the PVC market in Tikri Kalan.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that this initiative will help minimize collateral damage and save lives by allowing firefighters to combat fires from a safe distance of up to 100 meters using these remotely operated machines, which can withstand adverse conditions like fire, smoke, and heat. The robots are equipped with advanced features such as multiple water nozzles, sensors, cameras, and the ability to customize equipment for breaking barriers and assessing situations inside burning structures.

In conclusion, these fire-resistant robots demonstrate remarkable technological advancements by covering a vast area of around 100 meters and swiftly extinguishing fires. This forward-thinking approach aims to enhance firefighting capabilities, reduce risks for firefighters, and safeguard lives and properties in the city.
