Forum on Embodied AI Development Held in Barcelona

In Barcelona, during the Mobile World Congress, the World Internet Conference Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence (WIC SC on AI) organized a special forum on March 3 under the theme “Embodied AI: Leading a New Paradigm of AI Development,” as reported by CRI Online. The event featured prominent figures such as Francis Gurry, vice-chair of the WIC and former director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization; Mohamed Ben Amor, director general of the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization; and Lara Dewar, chief marketing officer of the GSMA.

Additionally, Schahram Dustdar, co-chair of the WIC SC on AI and president of the International Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance; Zhang Dong, executive vice president of China Mobile; Nakul Duggal, executive vice president at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.; and Wang Xiang, senior vice president at ZTE delivered speeches. The forum also included a roundtable discussion moderated by John Higgins, chairman of the International AI Governance Association, and attended by Liu Dong, director of China Future Internet Engineering Center; Jayne Stancavage, vice president of policy and regulatory affairs at Intel Corporation; Emanuela Girardi, president of ADRA; and Qu Zhenbin, chief solutions architect for AI+ at Alibaba Cloud.

The forum focused on the opportunities and challenges in the emerging embodied AI sector. Participants acknowledged that embodied AI is moving beyond research and development to large-scale deployment and emphasized the need for global cooperation to nurture a diverse and inclusive industry ecosystem. They highlighted the significance of establishing a secure governance framework to ensure the safe and reliable development of embodied AI, with the ultimate goal of leveraging technological advancements for the benefit of society.

Attendees expressed confidence in the crucial role of the WIC SC on AI in fostering international consensus and shaping a shared intelligent future. Over 100 representatives, including WIC SC on AI members, WIC affiliates, and delegates from governmental bodies, international organizations, and institutions active in the embodied AI domain, took part in the forum.
