KP Group’s Solar Panel Cleaning Robots: A Technological Leap Towards Eco-Friendly Energy Production

humanoid December 11, 2025 2 min read

KP Group, a pioneer in innovation, has implemented a groundbreaking transition from manual to robotic water-less solar panel cleaning, aimed at conserving at least 360,000 liters of water per year per MWp. This initiative not only showcases their commitment to environmental protection but also marks a significant advancement in sustainable practices. The innovative approach has already been successfully executed at nine operational sites.

Under the visionary leadership of KP Group’s CMD, Dr. Faruk Patel, the company’s internal Research and Development Team has spearheaded the development of robots specifically designed for cleaning solar panels. This endeavor led to the establishment of a startup named “KPI Green OMS,” dedicated to deploying robotic engineers and establishing a factory in Ahmedabad for the production of solar panel cleaning robots.

The team of dedicated robotic engineers, including Zaid Kesrani, Ravindra Rehewar, and Harsh Mevada, has been tasked with the creation and deployment of over 100 cleaning robots at various project sites. Equipped with a robust battery life of three years, these robots can operate continuously for six hours with a backup battery. Their portable design allows for easy shifting between rows, with adjustable lengths to accommodate different module sizes and cleaning brush heights for enhanced efficiency.

The benefits of robotic cleaning have been substantial. The speed of cleaning has significantly increased, with a single robot capable of cleaning 40 solar panels per minute, translating to the cleaning of up to 700 KW panels in an hour. This efficiency has reduced manpower requirements and time consumption drastically. Previously, ten employees would take a 6-hour shift to clean panels totaling 1.5 MW, mainly during nighttime hours. Now, only two resources are essential for monitoring and shifting the robots, enabling daytime cleaning in just a quarter of the time.

Moreover, with robotic cleaning, there is a remarkable reduction in water consumption, a precious natural resource. Previously, manual cleaning required around 3 liters of water per panel, posing challenges in areas with water scarcity or hard water. The implementation of robotic cleaning addresses these challenges effectively, eliminating the need for water during cleaning operations.

KP Group’s innovative approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes significantly to environmental conservation. To learn more about their initiatives, visit their website https://kpgroup.co/.
