UBTECH, a robotics company based in Shenzhen, China, recently made history by successfully conducting the first-ever collaborative practical training program for humanoid robots at ZEEKR’s 5G Intelligent Factory. This milestone event showcased multiple humanoid robots working seamlessly together across various industrial scenarios, demonstrating a significant advancement in the development of a Swarm Intelligence system for humanoid robots. The transition from individual autonomy to Swarm Intelligence is seen as a crucial step in enabling humanoid robots to operate efficiently on a larger scale as industrial automation evolves.
UBTECH’s Walker S1 humanoid robots are at the forefront of this advancement, utilizing a networked cluster to explore how swarm behaviors and interactions with the physical environment can lead to advanced embodied intelligence. To facilitate this shift, UBTECH has introduced BrainNet, a software framework for humanoid robot collaboration, and introduced the concept of the Internet of Humanoids (IoH) – a centralized control hub essential for implementing Swarm Intelligence both in terms of software and hardware.
The BrainNet framework connects collaborative inference nodes and skill nodes to form a super brain and an intelligent sub-brain within the Swarm Intelligence system. The super brain, powered by a sophisticated multimodal reasoning model, allows for intelligent decision-making and management of complex production-line tasks. On the other hand, the intelligent sub-brain, based on the Transformer model, supports multi-robot collaborative control and distributed learning, facilitating flexible collaboration among humanoid robots at the production-line level.
To address the complexities of production-line tasks, UBTECH has developed a large reasoning multimodal model – the first of its kind for humanoid robots. This model, serving as the core engine of the super brain, enables continuous self-evolution of BrainNet, enhancing the efficacy of Swarm Intelligence. Through the use of DeepSeek-R1 deep reasoning technology, the model is being fine-tuned to enable humanoid robots to make high-dimensional decisions autonomously, akin to human-like common-sense reasoning.
Through practical training at the ZEEKR 5G Intelligent Factory, the prowess of UBTECH’s humanoid robots was showcased in various complex production areas where they successfully demonstrated collaborative sorting, handling, and precision assembly operations. The robots leverage cutting-edge technologies, including pure vision-based perception, intelligent hybrid decision-making, and dexterous manipulation capabilities, to optimize tasks such as sorting items, handling objects, and assembling components with precision and efficiency.
As UBTECH’s humanoid robots transition from single-agent autonomy to Swarm Intelligence, their deployment in industrial settings alongside notable partners like Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Geely Auto, and Audi FAW underscores their adaptability and effectiveness. With ongoing advancements in multi-humanoid robot collaboration and AI development, UBTECH remains committed to driving innovation in product development and technology. The company’s expansion into more partner factories signifies the increasing adoption and scalability of humanoid robots in diverse industrial applications, highlighting the future potential of intelligent manufacturing.
