The Middle East’s first joint laboratory dedicated to AI and robotics has been launched by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and NVIDIA, a global leader in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence. The TII-NVAITC (NVIDIA AI Technology Centre) Joint Lab for AI and Robotics aims to advance AI models, robotics platforms, and humanoid technologies to drive innovation across various industries.
The agreement was formalized at TII’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two entities. Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating that it represents a crucial step towards developing AI-enhanced robotic systems capable of complex reasoning, adaptation, and action in diverse environments. By combining TII’s robotic platforms with AI models and accelerated computing, the collaboration aims to accelerate the integration of perception, control, and language, with the vision of creating intelligent machines.
The lab will combine NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms with TII’s diverse research expertise in AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and high-performance computing. It will be the inaugural NVIDIA AI Technology Centre lab in the Middle East, focusing on research areas such as robotic learning, large language models, and real-time robotic systems hardware. Carlo Ruiz, VP of Enterprise Solutions & Operations EMEA at NVIDIA, emphasized that this partnership extends NVIDIA’s global AI Technology Centre network to include robotics in the Middle East, facilitating advancements in intelligent systems.
This initiative is in line with Abu Dhabi’s strategic goal to enhance technological sovereignty and the UAE’s broader ambition to position itself as a global hub for AI and robotics. The lab will also support TII’s open innovation strategy by encouraging joint research, open-source initiatives, and knowledge exchange within the global NVAITC community. Leveraging TII’s existing robotic platforms, including robotic arms and delivery robots, the lab will focus on achieving technical excellence and operational readiness.
In conclusion, the collaboration between TII and NVIDIA in establishing the TII-NVAITC Joint Lab paves the way for cutting-edge research and innovation in AI and robotics within the region. This partnership signifies a milestone in the development of intelligent systems and enhances the technological landscape of the Middle East.
