In recent news, China has finalized a groundbreaking US$37 million deal to introduce self-charging humanoid robots along its borders. UBTech Robotics from China has secured a significant contract to deploy humanoid robots at border crossings in Guangxi, marking a strategic move to implement robotics in various public and industrial settings. These advanced robots, starting with the Walker S2 model, are set to autonomously replace their batteries and will be operational from December.

The agreement was signed with a humanoid robot center in Fangchenggang, a coastal city neighboring Vietnam. These humanoid robots will be utilized at border checkpoints to assist travelers, manage personnel flow, conduct patrol duties, handle logistics tasks, and support commercial services. Moreover, they will also be deployed at manufacturing sites for inspections in sectors like steel, copper, and aluminum.

The Walker S2 is an industrial-grade humanoid robot designed for smart manufacturing and logistics, standing at approximately 1.76 meters tall. With remarkable precision and strength, these robots can handle tasks such as assembly and grasping, carrying loads of up to 15 kilograms per arm. One standout feature of the Walker S2 is its autonomous dual-battery system, enabling continuous 24-hour operation.

UBTech’s innovative technology includes advanced perception and decision-making systems, enhancing the robot’s adaptability to various factory environments. Furthermore, the company has received substantial orders for the Walker series, with plans to scale up production significantly in the coming years.

China’s rapid development in humanoid robotics is evident through the establishment of a national committee dedicated to this sector, appointing key industry leaders to drive progress and innovation. The country’s focus on robotics extends beyond industrial applications to fields like healthcare, elderly care, urban cleaning, traffic management, and public safety patrols, showcasing a shift towards embodied AI solutions in various sectors.

Written by Kaif Shaikh, a seasoned journalist and writer with a keen interest in technology, sustainability, and global dynamics, this comprehensive overview highlights the significant advancements in robotics and AI, particularly in China.
