IE Media, Inc. offers a platform to delve into significant engineering narratives and gain access to valuable information. The interaction with a high-intensity robot determined its performance and system-level resilience. A firm based in Pittsburgh recently introduced RP1 (ROBOTO 01), a cutting-edge open-source humanoid robot showcased globally at IROS 2026.
Described as the world’s first full-stack open-source bipedal humanoid robot, RP1 caters to researchers, educators, robotics developers, and AI teams. It is intended to serve as a versatile humanoid robotics system allowing customization, training, and continuous enhancement within real development processes. RoboParty’s founder, Yi Huang, emphasizes the importance of an open foundation for humanoid robots to be accessible, modifiable, and continuously improved by developers.
Visitors at the IROS booth engaged in an interactive demonstration named “Kick Me,” enabling them to experience RP1’s resilience firsthand. The robot dynamically adjusted its posture and regained balance when subjected to external disturbances, showcasing its stability and control abilities under pressure. The repeated high-intensity interactions served as a challenging test for the robot’s durability and performance.
RP1’s capabilities during the event were supported by PartyOS, an open R&D platform integrating the UFO framework, emphasizing dynamic motion, AI model training, validation, and continuous development. The robot’s design focuses on delivering peak joint torque of up to 160 N•m, emphasizing dynamic motion, disturbance recovery, and long-term research. Its in-house-developed Romomo actuator modules and real-time motion control system underpin its agility and adaptability in various scenarios.
RoboParty envisions RP1 as an evolution of its RPO project, leading a full-stack open-source initiative in humanoid robotics. The company has expanded its technical expertise to encompass core actuators, motion control, dexterous manipulation, and robotics software systems. Through RP1’s demonstrations, the seamless coordination of body, actuators, and control system was on display, showcasing not only algorithmic capabilities but also the holistic integration of its components.
