SoftBank Robotics has recently launched a towing attachment for cage carts which are utilized with its PUDU T300 transport robot. This innovation is specially designed for logistics and manufacturing facilities in Japan that are looking to streamline material handling processes amidst the prevailing labor shortages. The product, named “Begin+ JIG for T300,” is a collaborative effort between SoftBank Robotics and Monolix, offering a new option for the PUDU T300 robot.
The towing attachment enables the seamless connection of existing cage carts to the robot using a one-touch mechanism. This feature allows for the automation of transportation without the need for any special modifications to the carts. The decision to develop this product was prompted by requests from various customers who desired to move goods in cage carts directly after unloading trucks, eliminating the additional step of transferring them to a different trolley.
SoftBank Robotics emphasizes that the setup is designed to streamline operations, removing the reloading step, and thereby easing the burden on workers involved in transport tasks. The attachment is compatible with standard cage carts, as well as models equipped with four swivel casters. Additionally, at delivery points, the system can detach the cage cart automatically, even in the absence of a worker, whereby the PUDU T300 robot can autonomously return to its designated location.
Looking ahead, the company intends to broaden the compatibility of the towing attachment to include other types of carts beyond cage carts. In Japan, the adoption of transport automation is on the rise among logistics and factory operators as labor shortages intensify, and there is a heightened demand for equipment that can streamline manual handling processes. Cage carts, widely used in warehouses, factories, and retail backrooms in Japan, are popular for moving goods in bulk.
