Discover Qwen-Robot, a groundbreaking technology that empowers robots to navigate, manipulate objects, and predict environments in real-world scenarios. Developed by Alibaba’s Tongyi Lab, the Qwen-Robot suite is currently undergoing pilot testing with selected Alibaba Cloud clients. This suite comprises three specialized models: Qwen-RobotNav for navigation, Qwen-RobotManip for object manipulation, and Qwen-RobotWorld for world modeling in physical environments.

Alibaba’s Qwen family of AI models excels in understanding the physical world, enabling robots to identify objects, interpret spatial relationships, follow complex visual cues, and reason in real-world settings. While the models can comprehend tasks like fetching a red cup from the kitchen and placing it on a shelf, bridging language understanding with physical actions poses a unique challenge due to the distinct nature of robotic data.

To address this challenge, Alibaba developed the Qwen-Robot Suite with the goal of enhancing robot capabilities in understanding instructions, interacting with objects, navigating spaces, and making informed decisions. The suite’s three models, Qwen-RobotNav, Qwen-RobotManip, and Qwen-RobotWorld, cater to movement and navigation, physical manipulation, and environmental predictions, respectively.

Alibaba showcased the capabilities of Qwen-RobotNav on a Unitree Go2 quadruped robot, demonstrating seamless navigation through an unfamiliar apartment based on spoken instructions. The company’s robotic manipulation model, Qwen-RobotManip, achieved outstanding results in real-world robotics benchmarks, showcasing its efficacy in object handling and interaction tasks. Additionally, Alibaba introduced Qwen-RobotClaw, a robotics agent framework enabling seamless integration of Qwen models for real-world applications.

In a competitive landscape where embodied AI is gaining momentum globally, Alibaba’s Qwen-Robot models mark a significant step towards creating AI systems capable of interacting with the physical world. As other global players, such as Google DeepMind and Nvidia, escalate their efforts in robotics and AI, China remains at the forefront by combining manufacturing strengths with substantial investments in AI for autonomous decision-making.

The sector is witnessing active participation from major companies like Alibaba, Tencent, and various startups, all striving to advance embodied AI technologies. This technological evolution reflects a broader industry trend towards developing AI systems that can comprehend and engage with real-world environments.
