Chinese humanoid robotics company achieves world’s first multi-robot collaborative training

The advancement of China’s domestic robotics industry is rapidly progressing, leading to groundbreaking innovations and applications. UBTECH, a major player in the field, has showcased the capabilities of its Walker S1 industrial humanoid robots collaborating on tasks involving handling large and heavy payload bins. This recent development underscores the ongoing evolution of humanoid robotics towards collective intelligence in industrial settings.

UBTech recently achieved a significant milestone by conducting collaborative training for multiple humanoid robots in various scenarios at Zeekr’s 5G-wired smart factory. This pioneering achievement sets the stage for the development of generalized humanoid robot solutions that can work together on multiple tasks, enhancing productivity in industrial environments. The company has created a multimodal inference model that enables humanoid robots to apply human-like common-sense reasoning and inference, streamlining task delegation, scheduling, and collaboration across different operational lines.

The robotics landscape in China is witnessing significant advancements propelled by innovative breakthroughs. Notably, a collaborative effort between the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other institutions has resulted in the development of an algorithm that allows humanoid robots to autonomously regain an upright position from various orientations. This cutting-edge algorithm represents a major leap in robotic capabilities, enabling robots to stand up on diverse terrains independently.

Moreover, Chinese robotic companies are pushing the boundaries of robot capabilities with impressive feats. Zhongqing Robotics Technology Co, based in Shenzhen, achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully executing the world’s first forward somersault with its humanoid robot. This achievement signifies a transition from basic locomotion to complex motions, showcasing the agility and versatility of humanoid robots.

The growth of the robotics sector in China is evident in the increasing number of intelligent robotics enterprises in the country. By the end of December 2024, China boasted 451,700 such enterprises with a combined registered capital of 6.44 trillion yuan ($886.3 billion). The substantial rise in the number of robot-related companies, a surge of 206.73% from the previous year, reflects the upward trajectory of the robotics industry in China.
