A specialized committee on Artificial Intelligence, known as the WIC SC on AI, organized a significant forum during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The event, themed “Embodied AI: Leading a New Paradigm of AI Development,” brought together prominent figures in the field. Speakers included Francis Gurry, the vice-chair of WIC and former director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization; Mohamed Ben Amor, director general of the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization; and Lara Dewar, chief marketing officer of the GSMA.
Other distinguished speakers at the forum were Schahram Dustdar, co-chair of the WIC SC on AI and member of Academia Europaea; Zhang Dong, executive vice president of China Mobile; Nakul Duggal, executive vice president and group general manager at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.; and Wang Xiang, senior vice president at ZTE. A roundtable discussion was moderated by John Higgins, co-lead of the Standards Program of the WIC SC on AI and chairman of the International AI Governance Association, with participation from industry experts like Liu Dong from China Future Internet Engineering Center, Jayne Stancavage from Intel Corporation, Emanuela Girardi from ADRA, and Qu Zhenbin from Alibaba Cloud.
The forum focused on the evolving landscape of embodied AI, highlighting its shift towards large-scale implementation and the pressing need for international collaboration to nurture a diverse and inclusive industry ecosystem. Participants emphasized the significance of establishing a secure governance framework to ensure the safe and reliable development of embodied AI technologies, ultimately benefiting society at large.
With over 100 representatives in attendance, including members of the WIC SC on AI, WIC members, and professionals from international organizations and government agencies, the forum underscored the crucial role of global consensus in shaping the future of AI. The continued efforts of the WIC SC on AI were acknowledged as essential in driving innovation and fostering a collaborative and intelligent future for all.
