Naver, a leading Korean internet company, has announced the launch of a groundbreaking operating system for robots dubbed “Arc mind.” This innovative platform, unveiled at the LEAP 2024 tech trade show in Saudi Arabia, is the world’s first OS for robots powered by a web platform. Combining Naver Cloud’s Whale web platform technology with Naver Labs’ robotics software expertise, Arc mind represents a significant leap forward in technological integration.
During a recent press briefing in Seoul, Kim Hyo, Naver Cloud General Leader, highlighted how the development of Arc mind builds upon Naver’s established tech portfolio, including the Whale browser, Whale OS, and the advanced multi-robot intelligence system Arc. This new OS is poised to revolutionize the robotics industry by providing a conducive environment for the development and deployment of diverse robots and robotic services in upcoming smart cities.
Peck Jong-yoon, Executive Officer at Naver Labs, emphasized Arc mind’s unique positioning in the market, noting its distinction from the widely-used Robot Operating System as it leverages existing web platforms for enhanced compatibility and productivity. By integrating existing systems like Naver Pay, Arc mind streamlines the process of introducing new services, such as a payment system for delivery robots, thereby accelerating overall development efforts.
Naver’s immediate plan involves implementing Arc mind in its own robots before expanding it into an open ecosystem. At the ongoing LEAP 2024 event, the company’s CEO Seok Sang-ok is set to deliver a keynote speech on “Tech Convergence for Future Cities” and showcase cutting-edge technologies such as digital twin, AI, cloud services, and Arc mind at an exhibition booth. Additionally, Naver is unveiling a collaborative robotics platform, Robotics Edge Computing Platform, in partnership with Samsung Electronics, aimed at promoting the adoption of collaborative robots through the fusion of Samsung’s chip solutions and Naver’s software expertise.
In conclusion, Naver’s introduction of Arc mind marks a significant milestone in the robotics industry by ushering in a new era of innovation and accessibility for developers worldwide.
