Figure AI, a prominent humanoid robotics company based in California, has recently unveiled its latest creation, the Figure 03 humanoid robot. This innovative robot is versatile, suitable for home, commercial, and large-scale applications. The company has revealed that the new model boasts enhanced hardware, advanced AI capabilities, and a manufacturing system tailored for mass production.
At the core of the robot is Helix, Figure’s exclusive vision-language-action AI introduced earlier in the year, aimed at executing tasks in a manner akin to humans. According to the company, the integration of AI is essential for scaling humanoid robots successfully. Brett Adcock, the founder and CEO of Figure, emphasized that Figure 03 operates autonomously, without any teleoperation involved.
The Figure 03 robot features a revamped sensory suite and hand system to enhance visual perception and dexterity. Its fingertip sensors are sensitive enough to detect as little as three grams of pressure, enabling the robot to manipulate delicate and irregular objects. For household use, the model comes equipped with protective multi-density foam, soft fabrics, wireless charging, and an upgraded audio system for effective speech interaction. Additionally, the battery system has obtained the UN38.3 safety certification, incorporating various safeguards to prevent malfunctions.
On the commercial front, the robot boasts faster actuators, tactile sensing capabilities, and inductive charging for continuous operation. Businesses can customize certain aspects of the robot, such as side screens and uniforms, to align with their branding. To facilitate large-scale production of the Figure 03, Figure has established a high-volume manufacturing facility called BotQ. This facility is set to manufacture up to 12,000 humanoid robots annually initially, with a long-term goal of reaching 100,000 units over four years. By streamlining the manufacturing process and focusing on scalability, Figure has successfully reduced production costs significantly, making the robot more economically viable as production volumes increase.
By combining Helix with cutting-edge tactile sensors and scalable manufacturing practices, Figure aims to lay the groundwork for general-purpose robotics to be seamlessly integrated into both households and workplaces. Through a commitment to accessibility-driven design and engineering excellence, Figure is poised to revolutionize the field of robotics.
